Cape Breton Fiona Fundraiser raises over $100,000
On Sunday, October 30, the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay hosted Rise Together!, a fundraiser for those affected by Hurricane Fiona.
The show, which sold out in 24 hours, was hosted by Ron James, and featured Jimmy Rankin, The Barra MacNeils, Men of the Deeps, The MacArthur Dancers, Clifton Cremo, Bette MacDonald, Maynard Morrison and The Island Girls, featuring Heather Rankin, Bette MacDonald, Lucy MacNeil and Jenn Sheppard. The Cape Breton House band featured Stephen Muise, Fred Lavery, Emily Dingwall, Brian Talbot, Colin Grant, and Jamie Robinson.
“We are thrilled to announce the event has raised $52,973.00 to date,” says show producer Kim Hendrickson, Premiere Entertainment Group. “With matched donations from the Government of Canada we exceeded our goal, and $105,946 will go to those impacted by Fiona”.
All funds raised will go to the Red Cross for their hurricane relief efforts in Atlantic Canada.
Due to the overwhelming demand, the show was live-streamed and can be viewed for the month of November.
“The response from the community has been overwhelming,” says Pam Leader, Manager of the Savoy Theatre. “From artists and producers to tech and ushers – everyone donated their time and expertise to make this show happen. It’s been incredibly heartwarming.”
Rise Together! was produced by Premiere Entertainment Group, sponsored by Bell Aliant and supported by NATIONAL Public Relations, the Government of Nova Scotia, The Savoy Theatre, NovaStream, SoundPark Studios and Admiral.
